Bryan Responds to Questions Part 1 |

A couple of weeks ago, I got an email asking if I could forward a question to Bryan (our beloved guitar player) and get him to answer it. What a great idea. Anyone who has any other questions that they would like answered can send them to me and I'll be sure to get them answered and posted here. You can use the form mail on the contacts page at the top of the page or just click here . The following is the question and response. Thanks for the input.
Dear Bryan I’ve noticed that you play a lot of guitars. Do you have a favorite and if so, could you explain? Name withheld by request.
 Our Beloved Bryan
I guess the reason for different guitars is that each one has it's own feel, sound and response. One has a "B-Bender" in it to simulate pedal steel guitar licks (no offense, Bob!), another has a "whammy bar" for vibrato effects, one has an "Easy" button...(be careful when you use THAT one!!!). My definite favorite to play is my Rowan BG-1, though. Mike Rowan is a guitar builder in Garland, Texas who makes a great guitar (there's a link to his web site on our Fan Club "Links " page). He basically makes two different body shapes...a single cutaway and a double-cutaway. The BG-1 is a double-cutaway model with a chambered mahogany body, flamed maple top, set-in mahogany neck and a Tele-style pickup configuration (Bill Lawrence L-290T's for all you gear junkies) and a Fishman PowerBridge with piezo bridge saddle pickups to blend in an acoustic sound. The cool thing about this guitar is that Mike takes your order down to what size and type of frets you want installed, the shape and width of the neck and your choice of woods, hardware and finish...That's about as "Custom Shop" as it gets! You would normally pay CRAZY money for a Custom-built guitar like that from one of the "Big Name" manufacturers, but Mike's custom stuff is priced in line with the "factory-made" pieces like PRS, Gibson, etc. He just built a single-cutaway for me (also flamed maple over a chambered mahogany body) that just has a Fishman bridge saddle pickup on it to produce an acoustic sound on stage (sounds AMAZING through the Gilley's PA!!!). These guitars are real Sleeping Giants...when word gets out to the public about this stuff, I'm sure there will be a waiting list a year long to get one!!! bg |
