Rivers & Highway 69 named Official House Band of Gilleys Dallas .
Rivers, a bright new country star, is rising out of the Lone Star State. He is destined to become a country standard, not a passing trend. These first three songs, "I'm to Blame" (Rivers), "Trail of Broken Hearts" (Rivers and Clay Baker), and a country-gospel tune "Dear Lord" (Rivers), have got such life and energy to them they will definitely capture the heart of all those who hear them. Based out of Dallas, Texas, Rivers has been touring non-stop with his band, Highway 69 for the past eleven years performing in excess of 250 dates per year while building a loyal, grassroots following in countless clubs, honky tonks, fairs and festivals throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. In 2003, Rivers won "songwriter of the year" for "She Draws Them Together", which he co-wrote with Johnny Huffman. Rivers and Highway 69 also won "Dallas Band of the Year" in the fall of 2003. The regional hit single "Trail of Broken Hearts" helped move Rivers CD over 1000 units, and also was a gratis feature on a CDX compilation which featured hit singles by George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, Reba, and Tim McGraw, and was nationally distributed to radio, retail, and key buyers and venues. The single received rave reviews and opened many doors for Rivers, particularly in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. In 1996, Rivers was named "Artist of the Year" which followed up his 1995 garnering as "Entertainer of the Year" at the Terry Awards. "I started singing in church back in Louisiana when I was 6 years old, and began singing professionally at age 8 in musicals and weddings. But even though I had some great vocal scholarships in college and was classically trained in opera at LSU and UTA, I still continued to sing in clubs - I just love to sing live for an audience." Bryan Grenvall (guitar) Born and raised in the Dallas area, Bryan has played guitar in bands since high school covering rock, jazz, blues, country and everything in between. In the late '80's and early '90's, he and fellow band-mates from "Full Circle" enjoyed traveling the Southwest opening up shows for George Strait, Keith Whitley, Steve Wariner, T. Graham Brown and many more. He took a break from the playing side of the music industry and went to work for a regional sound company as a sound engineer, mixing monitors for artists from Burt Bacharach to Dread Zepplin to the Dixie Chicks. Recent years have found Bryan back on stage as lead guitar and band leader for singer/songwriter Woody Lee. "What a great opportunity to play with some great guys in a great venue...Let's Rock!!!" Bob Gwaltney (pedal steel) I was born in the Big Sky Country of Montana, where both of my parents played music even before they were married. The voices and music of Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, Eddie Arnold, Jim Reeves, Hank Snow and Waylon could always be heard in our house. In 1975, my brother (6) and I (8) started performing with our parents in venues all over the northwest. I began playing pedal steel guitar at the age of 10 after watching a steel player on the TV show Hee Haw. I have done studio recordings on Cd's for 3 different artists in Washington state. In 2002, my wife Heidi and I moved to Royse City, Texas with our 4 children. For the last year I have been playing for Woody Lee. I love playing with Rivers and Highway 69...They are not only great players, they are great people!!! Craig Langford (bass) Born on the border of deep south Texas and Mexico, he started playing bass in Hawaii while in the Navy as a photographer, and following his honorable discharge, moved back home to play full time throughout the beach bars and honky tonks of Texas. Craig did double duty as bassist and part time road manager for Trisha Yearwood on her inaugural tour as opening act for Garth Brooks. Subsequent tours with Garth and other acts fulfilled his lifelong dreams, before he moved back to the metroplex to play locally and spend time with his family. Roger Rowe (drummer) Music has always been a part of Roger's life. "I grew up in a home filled with instruments and musicians. My father and his brothers played western swing and were major label artists on Decca and Columbia Records. My Grandfather wrote the hymn "Love Lifted Me", so it was only natural that I learned to play too." Playing with is dad and eventually landing a gig with Charley Pride for several years, Roger continues to amaze and inspire people with his drumming skills. "Playing with Highway 69 is a blast and we get to be the official house band Gilley's Dallas, who could ask for more." |
